About Us

Our Mission for a
Sustainable Future

We are dedicated to curating the reliability of knowledge about our planet’s environmental challenges and sharing this knowledge.

Welcome to Planetary Blue, a platform which uses crowd sourcing and curation to rank the reliability of information about our biosphere, share information using this ranking and promotes the activities of community members in solving .

Our Mission

Our mission is to enlighten, engage, and empower individuals & communities by

  1. Building and supporting a community of people working on the challenges to our biosphere.
  2. Developing a dataset on the reliability of websites providing information about the state of the biosphere using the Biosphere Information Reliability Index (BIRI™).
  3. Providing resources, courses and networking for our community.
  4. Explaining problems and solutions in clear and easy to understandable text with examples of members providing these solutions.
  5. Calling out Greenwashing with simple explanations driven by data.
  6. Helping organizations identify where they can be more proactive and reduce risk using BIRI™.

Our Approach - Nine Planetary Boundaries

Our approach is to provide scientifically accurate and easy-to-understand content. We provide curated information on the latest research, trends, challenges, and solutions related to global environmental challenges using the nine planetary boundaries framework where possible to explain issues.

The Nine Planetary Boundaries provides a dashboard for the myriad environment challenges our planet faces.  Developed by a group of earth system and environmental scientists led by Dr Jonas Rockström from the Stockholm Resilience Centre and the late Dr. Will Steffen from the Australian National University, the concept of planetary boundaries marks the environmental limits within which humanity can safely operate.   For more information on the Nine Planetary Boundaries, click here.

The Nine Planetary Boundaries relate to:

  1. Climate Change
  2. Ocean Acidification
  3. Stratospheric Ozone Depletion
  4. Nitrogen and Phosphorus Cycles
  5. Freshwater Use
  6. Land System Change
  7. Biodiversity Loss
  8. Atmospheric Aerosol Loading
  9. Chemical Pollution
